Focus on Transparency

Have you ever found yourself endlessly replaying a conversation in your mind, rehearsing your lines, but never quite bringing yourself to have the real discussion? This week on the podcast, my conversation with LaQuincia Nichols was a powerful reminder that what you avoid saying can shape your life just as much as what you do say—maybe even more.
It’s so easy to believe that ignoring tricky topics, whether at home or at work, will somehow keep things smoother or safer. But as LaQuincia so honestly shared, it’s often the unspoken words—the honest conversations you dodge—that lead to resentment, heaviness and disconnection, both from others and yourself. When you silence your own needs to keep the peace, you end up shrinking to fit other people’s expectations and lose sight of your own purpose.
We spoke about the critical skill of transparency—not just honesty, but proactively naming what’s really going on below the surface. It isn’t always comfortable; in fact, LaQuincia described being positively disruptive, gently challenging people to step forward and claim their space in the conversation. She knows the courage it takes, having navigated her own journey from surface-level connections to deeper, values-driven relationships. There’s science and strategy here as much as heart: preparing, naming needs, even allowing yourself to “sunset” the relationships that no longer serve you.
It can feel like conflict will break you or chaos will descend, but actually, the truth is far kinder. When you dare to let transparency lead the way, you create a space for real connection, both with others and with yourself. You start living, not for the approval of everyone around you, but in line with your own purpose. That's freeing.
Focus on Transparency. Focus on Why.
REFLECTION WITH ACTION
Which conversation have you been putting off because it feels too awkward, too raw or too risky?
This week, name it. Write it down. Make the conversation happen. Notice how much lighter you feel when you step into transparency.
