Focus on Authors

There’s something profoundly inspiring about authors who use their lived experiences to uplift, educate and challenge the world around them. On Wednesday night, I had the privilege of witnessing such impact firsthand at the launch of Rhona Morrison’s second book, From Crime Scenes to Cruise Ships, held at the stunning location of Glenskirlie Castle in Scotland.
Rhona shared her story in Focus on WHY podcast epsisode 457 and her journey from a career in forensic psychiatry to speaking on cruise ships and theatre stages across the UK is nothing short of extraordinary. Her book is a fearless, witty and wise account of reinvention. A masterclass in what it means to embrace new beginnings, no matter your age. Her message is clear: life after 60 isn’t about slowing down, it’s about boldly accelerating into new chapters we never imagined possible.
During the Q&A, I asked Rhona what’s next on her bucket list and how we could help her manifest it. Without hesitation, she expressed a desire to spread awareness around mental health and continue challenging stigma. Her answer was both personal and powerful, rooted in deep compassion. She encouraged us to look beyond labels and respond with empathy rather than judgment.
Rhona also hopes to secure more speaking opportunities both on land and sea to share her story and insights with wider audiences. If you’re looking for a speaker who can captivate with humour, heart and authenticity, Rhona is the one to call.
It was an honour to provide Rhona with an early reader endorsement to be included in her book and to be part of her celebratory evening. My train journey up to Scotland was made even more enjoyable thanks to another brilliant author, Jude Sclater, whose book Think Like a Coach* (shortlisted for this year’s Business Book Awards) kept me engrossed along the way.
Both Rhona and Jude are part of the vibrant and supportive author community led by Sue Richardson, founder of The Right Book Company. Sue continues to empower authors to share their voices and impact the world through books that matter. Sue has just launched a new community space called IMPACT so if you’re looking to write a business book, I highly recommend you checking it out here.
As an author who's also been shortlisted in the 2025 Business Book Awards with my own book Focus on Why, I’m reminded daily of the power of storytelling. So, here’s to all authors past, present and future who bravely dare to pen their truths. If you're thinking of writing a book, do it. Your story could be the one that changes someone’s life.
Focus on Authors. Focus on Why.
