Focus on Attention

ree

Last week, while on holiday, I realised how often we give only partial attention; glancing at colleagues, friends or family while our minds flit between emails, messages and never-ending to-do lists.

Jude Sclater’s Coaching Two-Step from Focus on WHY podcast episode 478 Think Like a Coach stopped me in my tracks. It’s simple: either say ‘tell me more’ or ‘summarise’ what you’ve just heard. Simple? Yes it is, but when you do it, the impact is huge.

People know when they aren’t being fully heard. Giving your ‘best quality attention’ makes conversations flow, resolves misunderstandings faster and builds trust. Pausing that email or putting your phone down doesn’t slow you down, it actually accelerates connection and results.

This week, pick one interaction with a colleague, friend, family member and really listen. Apply Jude’s Coaching Two-Step method. Notice how the energy shifts, how the conversation transforms and how both of you feel afterwards. Just one deliberate act of focused attention can create a ripple effect, one mindful conversation at a time.

Focus on Attention. Focus on WHY!

REFLECTION WITH ACTION: Are you really listening or just waiting to speak? Challenge your attention by applying Jude’s Coaching Two-Step method.
