Occasionally I receive a message that stops me in my tracks—one that makes me pause, smile and reflect on the journey I’ve taken. Yesterday, I received such a message from someone I met many years ago on a skiing holiday. It was a message filled with warmth, gratitude and the simple yet profound power of the words: thank you.
This message reminded me just how much impact we can have on others, often without even realising it. A casual conversation on self-development books and a brainstorming session about a business idea may have seemed like small moments at the time, but years later, they left a lasting imprint on someone’s life. What’s more incredible is that this person took the time to reach out, acknowledge that impact and say thank you.
Life is busy and it’s easy to forget the importance of expressing gratitude. We meet people, share moments and influence each other in countless ways, but how often do we take a step back and appreciate the role someone else has played in our journey?
A simple thank you can bridge years and distances. It rekindles connections, reminds us of the goodness in people and strengthens our belief that what we do—no matter how small it may seem—matters. In this case, it was a heartfelt message that reinforced the very principles I hold dear: the power of self-development, the importance of sharing knowledge and the beauty of meaningful human connections.
Gratitude has a ripple effect. When someone expresses appreciation, it creates a wave of positivity that extends beyond the individuals involved. That message made my day and reminded me why I do what I do, inspiring me to continue sharing, learning and lifting others. By writing this, I hope it encourages you to do the same.
Who in your life has made an impact on you? Have you told them? Whether it’s a mentor, a friend, a family member or even a stranger who once said the right thing at the right time—take a moment to express your gratitude. Send a message, write a letter or simply say, Thank you. You never know just how much those words might mean to someone.
Gratitude is about acknowledging the past and it’s also about nurturing connections, spreading positivity and creating a world where appreciation becomes a habit. And for that, I say—Thank You.
ACTION POINT: Who in your life has made a positive impact and how can you express your gratitude to them today?
