Focus on Poppy Day

ree

London Poppy Day this year took place yesterday on 30 October 2025. It’s the flagship fundraising event for the Royal British Legion’s annual appeal, bringing together over a thousand serving personnel from the Royal Navy, British Army and Royal Air Force alongside civilian volunteers at 70 train stations across the capital.

Being a Royal British Legion (RBL) poppy seller on London Poppy Day fills me with so much joy. The 12 hours I spent volunteering yesterday at London Bridge Station absolutely flew by! I had the pleasure of meeting so many wonderful people, each with their own personal reason for donating to, or volunteering for, this fantastic cause. Some share family connections, others stories of service or remembrance but all share the same spirit of gratitude and support.

This is my second year volunteering on London Poppy Day and I’ll definitely be back again next year. Founded in 1921, the Poppy Appeal raises funds for the RBL’s vital work supporting serving personnel, veterans and their families throughout their lives, with whatever the need, whenever it’s needed.

The lasting impact of a training accident, the loss of a friend or battlefield trauma are just three reasons which might cause a veteran's life to fall apart. When something goes wrong, the RBL is there to help veterans rebuild their lives providing the support they need to create a better future. This support is made possible by the generosity of the public and the 50,000 Poppy Appeal collectors and volunteers who dedicate their time each year to helping fundraise across the country.

Poppies are available in local supermarkets, high street shops, train stations and online at the Poppy Shop. The simple act of wearing a poppy sends a powerful message of remembrance, gratitude and unity with the Armed Forces community—one small flower symbolising a nation’s enduring respect.

Have you ever wondered what difference a few hours of your time could make to someone who has served our country? Volunteering on London Poppy Day showed me that even small gestures can have a lasting impact. Each smile, conversation and donation helps ensure the RBL can continue its work. If you feel inspired, make 2026 the year you get involved. Sign up to volunteer via the RBL website and be part of something truly meaningful.

Focus on Poppy Day! Focus on Why!

REFLECTION WITH ACTION:  What if a small poppy or a few hours of your time could truly change someone’s life?
